A broadcaster in Surigao del Sur province survived an attack by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night, reports said.
Julieto “Lito Pakapaka” Orillaneda, 35, of dxJB-FM based in Marihatag town was on a motorcycle and on his way home when two gunmen also on a motorcycle followed him and shot him.
The attack took place in front of the victim’s house in Barangay Poblacion around 7:30 p.m.
Orillaneda sustained gunshot wounds on his face and body and remained in critical condition at a hospital in Davao City.
Senior Insp. Joy Allan Blasco, Marihatag police chief, said an investigation was underway to identify the suspects as well as the possible motive of the attack on Orillaneda.
Local journalist Alvin Añonuevo said Orillaneda, who owns the community radio station was known for his stinging commentaries against corruption and abuses in Marihatag and nearby towns.
“That’s why he is called “Lito Pakapaka” his moniker based on his hard hitting radio commentary program which sometimes against government and other abuses, allegations of corruption,” Añonuevo told Caraga News Courier.
