The Caraga Regional Oversight Committee has formally declared all the 9 barangays of Tubod, Surigao del Norte practically the entire town as drug-cleared.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Caraga director Gilbert Buenafe, who chairs the committee said they arrived at the declaration, meaning the town has been cleared of drug users and pushers following a tedious scrutiny and review.
“The real key in declaring a town, city or a barangay drug free are the successes not only activation of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council together with the BADAC Auxiliary Teams of every barangay and the unconditional assistance of Tubod Municipal Police Station and of course, the LGU,” Buenafe said.
The formal recognition from the committee which is composed of Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government , Philippine National Police and the Local Government Unit was issued last week.
Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 3, Series of 2017 adopted last February 14, 2017 vested the newly established Oversight Committee the responsibility in declaring a barangay as drug-free after conduct of drug clearing operation, assessment and validation pertinent to the compliance with the parameters laid down by the committee.
According to Buenafe, Tubod is the first town among total 20 municipalities of Surigao del Norte province and in the entire Caraga Region declared as drug-free.
The 9 “drug cleared” barangays of Tubod are Barangay Poblacion , Del Rosario,San Isidro, San Pablo, Timamana, Marga, Cawilan, Capayahan and Motorpool.
Earlier, Tubod municipal officials and village chieftains led by Mayor Richelle B. Romarate volunteered themselves for a drug tests conducted by PDEA with the assistance of DOH to show support in the government’s effort to stamp out the drug menace.
They were found negative for any drug traces.
