Surigao City fireman, 8 others arrested in drug busts

Nine persons, including a fireman and a Siargao government employee were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine National Police in Surigao del Norte.

These operations conducted on Friday May 5 resulted in the confiscation of 29 sachets of methamphetamine or shabu with combined value of P 109,740.

Among those arrested was Surigao City Fire Officer 2 Joseph Fijo, who was allegedly caught having a shabu session with his friends inside a rented room in Barangay San Juan, Surigao City.

Nabbed along with Fijo were Richard Lasala, said to be a municipal local government operations officer (MLGOO) of San Isidro town , Siargao Islands, Honorato Cariaga, Anthony Apillanes, Roldan Cariaga, Kurt Escalona and Roselle Alih.

Also arrested by the PDEA and PNP during these series of operations were Roel Apolo, 35, a resident of Barangay Luna, and Dante Abarca, a porter at Socorro town Feeder Port .

All the suspects are now detained at the Surigao City lock-up cell while cases for using, possession and selling of illegal drugs were filed against them.
