A lawmaker from Surigao del Sur has filed a bill seeking to create a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bislig City to create new jobs and attract investments.
House Bill No. 2672 authored by Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny T. Pimentel seeks to create a special economic zone in Bislig, owing to its great potential as future hub for business opportunities and investments.
Located in the southeastern tip of the Caraga region, Bislig is considered a gateway to the Davao region, as it shares a border with Davao Oriental.
Pimentel, in a statement, said the SEZ will “spur more employment, more income for local folk, livelihood, revenues to local coffers and consumption growth and overall economic expansion” in the Caraga region.
According to Pimentel, Bislig City needs “more and new investors, especially in labor-intensive industries, to provide thousands of good-paying jobs and raise the living standards of a greater number of families in Caraga region.”
“We are hoping to attract Chinese investors to build factories in the economic zone, considering our government-to-government as well as people-to-people relations with China have warmed up owing to President Rodrigo Duterte’s independent foreign policy track,” said Pimentel. By CLC
