Police authorities in the Caraga are stepping up security in all airports and seaports region wide in light of the security threat posed by the Maute Group.
Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix, Caraga police director said strict security measures are being implemented in all seaports and airports in the region to ensure the safety of the region, which is still relatively peaceful following the terror attacks in Marawi City and the declaration of martial law in Mindanao.
No terror group has been monitored in Caraga since the Marawi City siege started on May 23, he said.
Felix said additional security forces have been deployed to beef up and assist port police personnel currently securing the Nasipit International Sea Port in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte; the Lipata Ferry Port, Diosdado Macapagal Port, both in Surigao City.
“See to it that all passengers would be thoroughly inspected without any exemption, including their baggages,” Felix said in a directive to all field unit commanders.
Aside from the special action force, regional, provincial and city mobile forces have also been mobilized to secure these international and domestic sea ports.
Police visibility in all airports in region particularly at Bancasi (Butuan) National Airport was also doubled and placed on a 24-hours basis, according to Felix.
The checkpoint in the regional border- in Carmen, Agusan del Norte and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental was also placed on heightened alert so that none of the Maute terror group members can enter Caraga.
The police official reiterated his appeal to Caraganons to be vigilant of any suspicious character, and immediately report to the police or Army authorities currently deployed in various areas in the region.
