Police on Monday sued the driver of the sport utility vehicle that figured in a deadly hit-and-run incident in Surigao City on Friday last week.
A complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide was filed against Rolando Madelo, a councilor of Tubod town in Surigao del Norte, days after reports and photos of the hit-and-run incident went viral.
Madelo, accompanied by his lawyer surrendered to the Surigao City Police Office.
Madelo is being sought for the death of Hershiey Lisondra, 8, a Grade 3 pupil at Surigao West Central Elementary School in Barangay Sabang.
The girl, was struck by a Isuzu Bighorn allegedly being driven by Madelo as she was crossing the street on Friday afternoon.
Lisondra, who sustained head and body injuries, died on the spot.
