An alleged high ranking official of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Agusan del Sur was captured Friday by combined elements of the military and police in Sibagat town, an Army official said on Saturday.
Pablito Campos, secretary of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 21A , was arrested by elements of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn) and Sibagat town police at Barangay El Rio around 9:00 a.m on Friday, said Lt. Teresita Ingente, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division.
Ingente said Campos, who also goes by the aliases of Batik and Ponsoy was arrested by virtue of eight warrants for crimes of rebellion, frustrated murder, murder, multiple attempted murder, kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by two courts.
One M4 rifle with a magazine loaded with live ammunition, grenade , three cellphones and a backpack containing personal belongings were recovered from the suspected rebel leader, said Ingente.
“Pablito Campos apprehension is a big setback for the NPA terrorists in Caraga knowing that he is the brain of Front Committee 21A. He decides on which companies and personalities are for extortion and abduction,” Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, commander of the 4th Infantry Division said in a statement.
“He is the top propagandist and recruiter in the hinterlands of Sibagat, Bayugan and San Miguel, the root of terrorism in the areas of Agusan del Sur. GF21A will soon experience blind leadership and eventually the downfall of the said front,” Villanueva added. By GD
