Authorities intercepted three motorcycles loaded with live ammunition in a police-military checkpoint in Barangay Pianing Butuan City Friday night.

Caraga Region police chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. said the motorcycles were also carrying food supplies, believed to be headed to a New People’s Army (NPA) camp in the region.

Caramat identified the suspects Ferdinand Dagium, 27, and Rolando Dagium, 34, who were both from Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, and Marvin Merencillo, 26, a resident of Bayugan City.

Seized from them were 4,800 rounds of 7.62 linked ammunition, two rifle grenades and several assorted goods and food supplies.

According to Caramat, the suspects had been under surveillance several months before the operation.

“They were positively identified as couriers under the group of the Regional Sentro de Grabidad under the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee) of the NPA,” said Caramat.

Caramat said the riders, along with the pieces of evidence, were brought to Butuan City Police Office as charges are being prepared for filing in court.

“All means are exhausted by the ground troops to neutralize terrorists like NPAs who are responsible for the series of atrocities in the area,” Caramat added. CLC
