Suspected New People’s Army rebels burned down heavy equipment owned by a quarry company in Trento, Agusan del Sur, early Tuesday dawn, police said.
Senior Inspector Jerry Fernandez, Trento police chief, said the armed men set on fire a backhoe and a pay loader at a quarry site in Barangay Tudela at 12:45 a.m.
The family of Trento Mayor William Galvez reportedly owns the quarry company.
Fernandez said the torching of the equipment was caused by the refusal of the company to pay the so-called revolutionary taxes of the NPAs.
After the burning, the rebels withdrew towards the mountainous area. By GD Photo courtesy of Sy Moon
