NEWSPIX: Endangered melo (civet cat) killed in Agusan

These are images that will haunt conservationists and animal lovers: An Asian palm civet known locally as melo or musang lying dead on the ground after being shot and killed by a man over accusations that it had been feasting on his family’s livestock and poultry.

The incident happened in Buenavista town in Agusan del Norte.

The critically endangered civet cats are considered high-value animals- kept in cages by coffee manufacturers, where its precious droppings are collected to create the most expensive coffee in the world. Photos taken from Facebook/JTO
