The military on Friday said it seized three camps of New People’s Army in San Agustin town, Surigao del Sur following intensified security operations to put an end to communist insurgency in the region.
Capt. Rodulfo Cordero, Jr., 401st Infantry Brigade spokesperson, said one of the encampments was believed to be the headquarters of the NPA North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee under rebel leader Myrna Solarte, alias Ka Maria Malaya.
Troops were able to seize 37 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), magazines for AK 47, three power generator sets, subversive documents and the rebels’ personal belongings from the abandoned camps. By GD Photo courtesy of Alexis Cabardo/ 401st IB
