Around 4,000 additional policemen have been deployed in public places across Caraga to ensure the safety of the devotees who will visit various churches during the Holy Week, as well as to secure summer vacationers in various parts of the region.
Chief Supt Rolando Felix, Caraga police chief, said he had placed all its units in the region under heightened alert and assured the public of its anti-crime and public safety plan for the Holy Week or “Semana Santa.”
Felix said the policemen would ensure the safety of the public through foot and mobile patrols in areas of public convergence-churches, malls, markets, commercial areas, seaports and airports, terminals and major tourist destinations.
“Security measures have been intensified in different places in Caraga ahead of the expected influx of travelers this week,” Felix said.
Felix asked the locals and visitors from other places, who wish to take their vacation and observe Holy Week in Caraga to become vigilant and report immediately to the nearest police tourist assistance desks any incident concerning public safety and security.
“We need the full support of the community to avert any untoward incident,” appealed the region’s police chief.
Felix also said they are stepping up their security and public assistance service dubbed “Oplan Sumvac,” which would not only be for this Holy Week but up to June this year.
The security plan aims to help the public in events like festivals, school homecomings and family gatherings this summer vacation. By YUC
