After more than a year in hiding, a former village chair of New Society in Butuan City wanted for illegal drugs possession charge was finally arrested, police said.

Authorities said Marco Imam, 47, who was tagged by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-Caraga) as a high-value target (HVT) drug personality was arrested at the Lagunidingan International Airport in Misamis Oriental on May 16.

Imam was the subject of the warrant of arrest that brought PDEA agents to his home in March last year. He escaped during the raid.

Fugitive search operatives had caught up with Iman at the pre-departure area of the airport and arrested him about 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

During manhunt operations, it was found out that Imam was hiding in Lanao del Sur.

The former village chief is now being held at the Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) for proper disposition. By GD
