Ex-cop in Surigao del Sur arrested with drugs

A former police officer under surveillance for his drug dealing activities was arrested during a raid by anti-drug agents and the local police in Barangay Pag-antayan, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur on Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Ruel Ortega, who was assigned with the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office in Tandag City.

Ortega was reportedly dismissed from service due to absences without official leave (AWOL).

Dindo Abellanosa, spokesperson for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Caraga said anti-drug agents seized packets of suspected shabu weighing 23 grams with an estimated street value of P271,400 as well as assorted firearms and ammunition during the raid on the former policeman’s house.

Abellanosa said Ortega is considered a high-value target and has been tagged as No. 4 on the drug watchlist of Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office.

Meantime, an alleged drug pusher in Agusan del Sur was killed in a drug raid conducted by lawmen and anti-drug agents in Trento, Agusan del Sur last Wednesday.

Authorities in Caraga identified the slain drug suspect as Earl Adrian “Bin Laden” Tellain, considered a priority high value target of PDEA.
