The provincial health officer of Dinagat Islands was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Dinagat town Thursday evening, police said Friday.
Senior Inspector Francisco Florinosos, Dinagat police chief, said Dr. Vicente Soco Jr., was shot several times by an unidentified assassin on board a motorcycle in Barangay GT at 7:00 p.m.
Florinosos said Soco had just arrived home from a medical mission in San Jose, the provincial capital, when he was shot.
Soco sustained bullet wounds on different parts of the body and he died while being taken to the Dinagat District Hospital, also in San Jose.
Police are still investigating the incident.
Soco was the first government doctor in Caraga to fall victim to vigilante-style killings this year. By CLC
