Don’t wait until the last minute.
The Commission on Elections in Caraga (COMELEC-Caraga) issued this reminder to would-be voters as the ongoing voters’ registration is set to end on Sept. 29.
Comelec-Caraga director Francisco Pobe urged Caraganons who have not yet signed up for the 2019 mid-term polls to avoid flocking to local election offices on the last day in order to avoid the long queues of voters trying to beat the deadline.
Pobe said there are no discussions of extending the voters’ registration for the May 13, 2019 national and local elections, which began last July.
Offices of the local election officers spread in various areas in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the voters’ registration, he added.
Aside from applications for new registration, also accepted during the registration period were applications to transfer or reactivate voter registration, changes in entries and inclusion or reinstatement of records on lists of voters.
Pobe reiterated it is the duty of the agency to conduct regular voter registration in order to enfranchize and enlist qualified Filipino voters.
Also, Pobe said the filing of certificates of candidacy is set on October 11-17 (except Saturday and Sunday), instead of October 1-5, based on the Comelec en banc calendar of activities and after the House of Representatives has requested for the rescheduling. By CLC
