Just as we hope that the COVID19 pandemic will soon be over, the northern part of the country was ravaged by the Super Typhoon Rolly and followed by Typhoon Ulysses two weeks after.
With the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses, communities in Luzon were flooded. Many families lost their homes and displaced more than a hundred.
Seeing the aftermath, a good light of consolidated help for those families hit hard by the recent typhoon is on the move.
Art lover and Manila-based SM Supermalls executive Atty. Pearly Joan Jayagan Turley in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection Ark Project and in support of the visual artists, “ART from the Heart 2020” is initiated.
ART from the Heart 2020 is an online charity art auction seeks to distribute Noche Buena package to some families affected by Typhoon Ulysses in Cagayan.
More than 300 artworks were submitted by the participating artists from different places like Davao City, Panabo, Tagum, Butuan, Iloilo, Bohol, Puerto Galera, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, NCR, even Hawaii and Canada.
This kind of charity is not the first of Atty. Turley. Last year when the Mindanao earthquake happened she also participated in Heart Serves- an art auction that helped those affected by the said disaster.
From then on she participated in several art charity auctions in Davao, Cebu, Iloilo and Manila and befriended artists in different parts of the country.
With the two typhoons affecting thousands of Filipinos and recognizing the difficulties of the local artists in this time, Atty. Pearly thought of extending a help.
Hence, the charity auction came into the picture.
She started contacting some artists and received positive outcome. Partnering with the Bureau of Fire Protection the auction was launch in two weeks period.
“So I texted artists and so many volunteered to help and donate.”, the art lover attorney relayed.
In spite of the economic hardship that the pandemic brings, it is satisfying to witness masterful artworks being sold even minutes after the auction started.
Artworks of Butuan artists Bryan Pacanut and Katrina Karen Centeno are among those that sold in the opening entitled “Plant Lovers” and “Profusion” respectively.
“So far 300 families will receive noche buena package and for Batch 1 auction which ended tonight (December 3) 12 paintings were sold.”, Atty. Pearly added.
Most buyers are from Davao City, Panabo, Davao de Oro and NCR. Individuals from other countries like UK, Canada and USA also join the purchase.
Second batch of auctioned pieces will end before midnight of December 4 and the third before midnight of December 5.
Selling will still continue until December 15 to generate more funds in helping those affected families and for the artists to earn as well.
With the overwhelming support from the artists, art patrons and donors Atty. Pearly has nothing but happiness for the selflessness and generosity of those who contributed in this meaningful cause.
True enough that the Bayanihan spirit of Filipino during times of crisis lives in our heart and the outpouring support in this initiative is a manifestation.
If you miss the auction’s opening the remaining artworks are still up for grab until December 15, 2020 at the official Facebook page of ART from the Heart.
