At least six persons were added to the list of COVID-19 fatalities in Caraga, raising the death toll from the disease in the region to 249.
The latest mortalities are from the municipalities of Bunawan, Trento and La Paz in Agusan del Sur and Claver, Pilar and San Francisco in Surigao del Norte, the Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga reported in its 4:30 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday. The six died between Jan. 10 and 17.
DOH Caraga also reported 56 new cases of the infection for the entire region.
Of the newly-reported cases, the health department said Agusan del Sur topped the list of new infections regionwide. The province has 17 COVID-19 cases.
This was followed by Surigao del Norte with 12 cases; Tandag City with seven cases; Butuan City with six; four each in Bayugan City and Surigao del Norte; Agusan del Norte with three; Bislig City with two; and Surigao City with one case.
With these new cases, the number of known COVID-19 infections in Caraga has now reached 5,491.
The number of patients who recovered from the viral illness has so far reached 4,604, while there are still 638 active cases as of Wednesday afternoon. CLC
