Police authorities in the Caraga filed charges against 91 persons amid an all-out drive on loose firearms in the region.
Caraga police director Chief Supt. Noli Romana said operatives from different city and provincial units arrested 91 persons for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in the past six months.
The number of arrested suspects which started from January this year to June 15, 2018 was little bit higher on the said period compared in 2017 when 78 people were nabbed, he said.
The PNP has also confiscated 160 loose firearms from January this year to May, 2018, the top police official in Caraga said.
Citing from the record of Regional Operation and Plans Division, Romana said the accomplishments on loose firearms significantly increased compared with the 109 posted last year in the same period.
He attributed the success of the campaign against loose firearms to the participation of the community, as he vowed they would continue to look for loose firearms all over the region.
Romana is hopeful to sustain these figures and breakthrough results in the coming years with its aggressive drive and continued support of partner agencies and other stakeholders.
“The help of the community is also very vital in curbing all forms of criminalities, particularly on illegal drugs that we are trying to put an end and make Caraga as drug-free region,” Romana added. By GD
