Butuan Rep. Lawrence Fortun has contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Fortun revealed that he too has fallen ill with the virus amid the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in the city since the turn of the year.

“I do not recall having been exposed of late to any COVID 19-positive person. It was only on January 10, that I had some nasal irritation. This morning I had sore throat and mild erratic muscle pains and decided to have a test,” he said.

The lawmaker is now under isolation in a health facility.

“I shall, however, continue to discharge the functions of my office and will be in constant coordination with our legislative office in Manila and the District Constituency Office in Butuan,” he added.

Fortun advised those who came in close contact with him to self-monitor for symptoms and undergo swab tests.

He also encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and boosted.

Fortun himself had completed his vaccination and received booster shot.

The Alert Level 3 would be in effect from January 14 to 31 in the city due to rising COVID-19 cases. CLC
