Art collectors, balikbayans, visitors and overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who wish to own a handsome piece of “Butuan gold” should go to Papelemento Art Gallery-shop at NB Building, Ochoa Avenue in Butuan City.
The tiny artists and art enthusiasts haven is run by young and personable award-winning self-made visual artist Kit Gresos, who himself produce distinct sculptural pieces and installations from all sizes and forms.
His works focus on the indigenous, proudly reflecting Butuanon craftmanship and Mindanaoan culture.
What better memorable item or souvenir to take home or give them as gifts but these homegrown creative masterpieces.
I have known Kit first as a child performer and now as a full time visual artist and I appreciate his sense of artistic adventurousness and independence as well as his loyalty and pride to local expressions.
His unique and out-of-the box “Butuan gold” collections made unusually of paper and paint to come out looking heavy stands out appropriately perhaps like the legendary ancient Balangay.
