At least 8,176 people in Caraga region have recovered from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since the start of the pandemic last year.
The Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga said this represents 85.3 percent of 9,580 total number of persons who contracted COVID-19 in the region as of Thursday, April 22.
Caraga currently has 1,062 active cases with 342 deaths.
Most of the patients or 65.5 percent of active cases were asymptomatic, while 30.8 percent have still exhibited mild symptoms only. At least 3.2 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 0.5 percent are in critical condition.
DOH Caraga said that among the five provinces of the region, Agusan del Sur has the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 1,781, followed by Agusan del Norte with 917 cases, Surigao del Sur with 840 cases, Surigao del Norte with 712 cases, and Dinagat Islands with 202.
In terms of city, Butuan remained the top city with the most number of COVID-19 cases with 3,285, Surigao with 526, Tandag with 428, Bislig with 417, Cabadbaran with 267, and Bayugan with 205.
With the continued rise in COVID cases in the region, DOH Caraga reiterated the need for people to strictly observe all health protocols like wearing a mask, physical distancing, and frequent hand washing, among others, to control the further spread of the virus. CLC
