Three suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were captured while four firearms were recovered by army soldiers during a security operation on Saturday in Veruela, Agusan del Sur.
The suspects-Bernie S. Perez, alias “Ka Ariel”; Joel S. Perez, alias “Ka Jo” and Nino S. Perez, alias “Ka Onin”- were detained at the Veruela Municipal police station pending filing of charges, said Lt. Col. Rommel Pagayon, 26th Infantry Battalion commander.
Pagayon, said troopers were on foot patrol when they chanced upon Bernie Perez and his companions in a forested area in Veruela.
“The trio crossed path with our troops on Saturday who were on patrol. The soldiers noticed that one of the sacks they were carrying revealed an outline of a rifle which prompted them to accost the trio. Ka Onin tried to escape but was seized later,” Pagayon said.
“Research done by the intelligence operatives and Philippine National Police revealed that Bernie S. Perez, alias ‘Ka Ariel’ has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of murder,” the army official added.
According to Pagayon, the three alleged NPAs were members of guerilla-Front Committee 3 of the PP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Madrigal, commanding general of the Army’s 4thInfantry) Division congratulated the field troops as he extorted them to be more cautious and vigilant in the advent of the NPAs plan to wage more attacks on AFP and PNP forces and uncooperative business entities. By CLC
