Police arrested two former drug convicts and seized P708,000 worth of shabu (crystal meth) in Butuan City on Sunday night, May 2.

Colonel Canilo Fuentes, Butuan police chief, reported Monday that anti-drug operatives nabbed Azis Mala and his cohort Ryndon Ybasco after selling shabu to a police agent in a transaction along New Road in Barangay Limaha.

Authorities seized 60.2 grams of meth worth P708,000.

Fuentes said Mala and Ybasco were former detainees on drug pushing charges but were released following a plea bargaining agreement with the court.

“Both suspects were previously arrested for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002 sometime in 2016 and were released after availing separate plea bargaining agreement,” Fuentes said.

Mala was considered the city’s top high-value target, Fuentes added.
