170 COVID-19 cases in a day: A new record for Caraga

A new record-high single-day increase of 170 new COVID-19 cases has been recorded, driving Caraga region’s total coronavirus caseload to 11,187. Courier File Photo
 

Setting a new Caraga record for the most coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in a day, tests released on Wednesday (May) confirmed that 170 residents have contracted the disease.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga on Thursday said 57 of the cases came from the Agusan del Sur province, followed by Surigao del Norte with 34, Butuan City with 25, Surigao City with 18, Surigao del Sur with 11, Agusan del Norte with 10, Bayugan City with seven, Bislig City with three, Dinagat Islands and Cabadbaran City with two each, and Tandag City with one.

Last May 7, the region logged 140 new COVID-19 cases.

The recorded-high number of new cases on Wednesday brought the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the region to 1,347.

The total number of COVID-19 related deaths also rose to 373 with the addition of seven more deaths, the DOH Caraga reported.

DOH COVID tracker said Caraga’s cumulative cases as of Thursday has reached 11,187 cases with 9,467 recoveries. CLC
