A total of 1,112 workers were regularized in Caraga during the 1st quarter of 2018, the regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported.
Chona Mantilla, DOLE director for Caraga region, said the employees were regularized by at least 5 establishments operating in the region because of Department Order (DO) 174, which prohibits labor-only contracting and strictly regulates lawful contractual arrangements and ends “endo” (end-of-contract scheme).
Mantilla said 839 out of the 1,112 workers regularized were from Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company (SMCC).
She said three security agencies—Timberland Security Agency, Marilag Professional Security Services Inc. and Tagbagani Security Agency were directed to give 263 security guards of the Philsaga Mining Corporation (PMC) regular employment status after a random validation by the Mediation-Arbitration and Legal Service Unit of DOLE 13.
Also, the Wayferer Pension House and Dormitory based in Butuan regularized their 10 workers on March 19, 2018,
According to Mantilla said the agency’s Mediation-Arbitration and Legal Service Unit is still monitoring and validating other companies which are set to regularize their workers.
Through Labor Advisory No. 06, series of 2017, the DOLE Caraga Regional Office through the Mediation-Arbitration has intensified its efforts in eradicating contractual arrangements, by working doubly in encouraging the establishments for voluntary regularization of employees ensuring their rights to labor standards benefits, self-organization and security of tenure.
The agency is pushing forward in encouraging each establishment in the region being inspected to follow the labor advisory, Mantilla said. By CLC Photo/Pehecano
