WATCH: PH ‘green’ activists gather in Butuan, slam Caraga mining operations

Carrying banners bearing antimining messages, environmental activists and anti-mining advocates from all over the Philippines scored the alleged continued operations of mining companies in Surigao del Sur in blatant disregard of Environment Secretary Gina Lopez’s suspension order issued last February.

The protesters, who marched through down Butuan Thursday morning air their support for Lopez and her anti-mining initiatives following her controversial order to close 23 mines in the country, 14 of which are situated in the Caraga, dubbed as the mining capital of the Philippines.
