Mine workers and advocates from Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands on Tuesday noon trooped to DENR regional office in Barangay Ambago, Butuan, questioning the recently concluded mining audit, which culminated in closure and suspension orders on 23 metallic mines across the country, 14 of which are in the Caraga region.

  1. The once fishing island of Dinagat, coastal municipalities of Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur and the rivers of Agusan del Sur are red with mud flowing from mined mountains, killing marine life and driving away fish, further drowning small fisher folks in poverty.
