A barangay (village) chairman in Surigao City was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle, on Sunday, the police said.
Felipe Palimo Achas, 49, village chief of Barangay (village) Mapawa, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds from a .45-pistol.
Supt. Jay Baybayen, the city police chief, said Achas was assisting the suspect, who pretended to be an applicant for a barangay clearance, when the latter shot him repeatedly at past 9 a.m.
The assassin, described to be roughly 45 to 46 years old, standing 5’8” and wearing a bull cap fled aboard a waiting motorbike after making sure that Achas was dead.
Baybayen, said they are still trying to determine the motive for the killing.
