Surigao police chief sacked over robberies, killings

The chief of the Surigao City police has been relieved of his post for failure to immediately solve the recent spate of robberies and killings in the city.

Caraga police regional director Chief Supt. Noli Romana relieved Supt. Jay Baybayan amid criticisms hounding the Surigao police for its alleged failure to curb crime incidents in the city.

Baybayan, who has been chief of Surigao police force for more than 10 months was transferred to the Provincial Mobile Force Company.

On Thursday morning, Supt. Diomedes Cuadra assumed the post of director of the Surigao City Police Office (SCPO) in a simple turnover ceremony attended by Senior Supt. Anthony Maghari, director of the Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office and City Legal Officer Manuelito Delani.

In his speech, Maghari challenged Cuadra to lower the criminality rate.

Cuadra said he is committed to keeping peace and order in the city. By GD
