Surigao del Norte provincial board member Leonila P. Gorgolon who is newly-appointed Regional Trial Court judge will be facing some 1,300 pending cases once she assumed office on Monday.
During simple testimonial ceremony at the provincial capitol in Surigao City Aug. 9, Surigao del Norte Vice-Governor Atty. Carlos Egay Jr., in his testimonial speech was all praise for the resigned board member, saying the new lady magistrate will be facing a backlog of 1,300 cases pending in her sala.
Gorgolon, 58, with four fully grown up children replaced retired RTC Judge Bayana.
“It will be a daunting job for the new RTC judge but knowing her as workaholic being a provincial board member, me and the whole Provincial Board worked together for years, I know she can solve the backlog,” Egay said.
Gorgolon takes her oath of office before Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas as the new presiding judge of RTC Branch 30.
“She never misses Monday flag raising ceremonies. Passed many vital provincial ordinances and whenever we need her being a public servant, board member Gorgolon is always there. Goodbye board member Leony, welcome RTC Judge Gorgolon,” Matugas in her speech after the oath-taking.
Board members Larong, who is a lawyer, Melva Garcia, former Mayor Constantino Navarro, IV congratulate while bidding good bye to their colleague who has worked with them for years.
Like the board members, former Rep. Francisco Matugas was also all praise for Gorgolon.
“She came in at the judiciary in its trying, dangerous times but knowing her capabilities, fairness for all and patience, I knew Judge Gorgolon will be shining armor in this challenging times of our justice system,” Matugas, a lawyer said.
In her speech, Gorgolon claimed she was a working student and did not expect to be a lawyer much more to be a judge since her first love actually was to become a nurse.
Gorgolon said it was a rough, very difficult road to be chosen as RTC judge ,saying she has to take many difficult tests, series of difficult interviews by JBC and background checks.
“I passed it all with the help of God and also with the help of other persons like Secretary Martin Andanar, Congressman Matugas who are like me from Siargao and finally I thank President Duterte, the Chief Justice, other justices and the Supreme Court for their trust and confidence in me. To all of you here who are all part of my journey, thank you very much,” Gorgolon said.
