Surigao cops arrest American facing VAWC raps

An American national who is facing charges of violence against women and children in Parañaque City, was arrested by policemen in Gigaquit town, Surigao del Norte on Monday.

George Joseph Lindner III, 55, was caught at a house in in Purok 5, Barangay Manobe where he has reportedly been hiding.

Sr. Supt. Antony B. Maghari, Surigao del Norte police director, said the police collared Lindner based on an arrest warrant issued by Judge Marie Grace Javier-Ibay of the Regional Trial Court Branch 194 of the National Capital Region (NCR) in Parañaque City last July 17 for violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004.

“He was properly informed of the nature of his arrest and his constitutional rights under Miranda Doctrine and Anti-Torture Act in language known to and understood by him,” Maghari said.

Lindner, who hails from Massachusetts secured temporary liberty after he posted bail in court. By Ben Serrano and CLC
