Soldiers, rebs clash anew in Agusan Norte; 3 killed

At least three New People’s Army rebels were killed in another encounter with government troops in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte on Sunday, the Armed Forces announced on Monday.

Lt. Teresita Ingente, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said the firefight broke out as the military launched renewed combat operations against the rebels in Sitio Taiwan, Barangay Bangayan yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

The cadavers of the slain NPA rebels had been recovered by members of the 29th Infantry Battalion (IB) from the encounter site, along with an M4 sniper riffle, a rifle grenade, five improvised explosive devices (IED) and ammunitions, according to Ingente.

Ingente said the bodies of the slain rebels, who remained unidentified, had been turned over to Kitcharao officials.

No government forces incurred casualties.

On Feb.10, soldiers also clashed with communist rebels in Veruela town, Agusan del Sur province that that left two insurgents dead. By GD
