The General Luna municipal government is ready for the staging of the 2017 Siargao International Women’s Surfing Cup, scheduled May 2-6 at the famous surfing spot “Cloud 9”.

“Everything is being prepared and the waves will be ready,” said General Luna Mayor Jaime Rusillon said.

The upcoming surfing event slated from May 2 to 6 is the first ever World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) women’s event in the Philippines.
Boasting of a generous $10,000-prize purse and other consolation prizes, foreign surfing officials and female surfers from Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, United States, Australia and Taiwan are expected to compete with local talents.

“We also have the best surfers here (in the Philippines and Siargao) and ready to compete to the best surfers from other countries,” Rusillon said.

Rusillon added the prize money will likely increase as more business groups and companies continue to signify their intention to help in the sponsorship and promotion of the event.

“We are happy that our women’s event will now be sanctioned by the WSL and we can’t wait for the first Cloud 9 waves to be conquered by these brave women.” By YUC
