Police official wounded in Butuan clash with NPA rebels

A junior Police officer was wounded in a firefight with suspected communist rebels in Butuan City on Tuesday  morning, a top Caraga  police official said.

Chief Superintendent Noli Romana, regional police director, said  policemen belonging to the 1304th  Maneuver Company of the  Regional Mobile Force Battalion and the Butuan City Mobile Force Company were on patrol at a mountainous area in the hinterland village of Manila de Bugabos when they encountered a still undetermined number of NPA rebels about 11:30 a.m.

The clashes went on for about 30 minutes, he said.

Romana dentified the  wounded policemen as  Inspector Mark Wayne Uberto, who was hit in his right leg and is now recuperating in a hospital.

“Casualty on the enemy side could not be determined,” Romana said.

“Caraga troops endure the situation despite of the long-familiar of the terrain of the enemy and this cannot be a hindrance to our  main core object to achieve the peaceful and progressive Caraga,” he  added.

Romana said hot pursuit operations are being conducted by troops from the RPSB and Butuan Public Safety Company.

“Rest assured that we will always continue to conduct peace and security operations to ensure the safety and security of the Caraganons,” he said. By GD
