In preparation for the 23rd International Surfing Cup to be held in Siargao Island, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy roughly 200 security forces for the surfing event.
The planned deployment is in compliance with the Task Force Siargao the PNP created to provide security from September 23 until 27, in General Luna town, where the surfing competition will take place.
Chief Supt. Rolando Felix, Caraga police director , said the personnel to be deployed will provide security and assistance to the top-ranked surfers from across the globe, their respective delegations, vacationers and tourists.
According to Felix, force multipliers will also be deployed to support the police in securing different areas of convergence and tourist destinations on the island.
“We are doubling all security efforts. In fact, reserve forces are on standby and ready to mobilize to ensure zero crime incidents during the event,” Felix said.
Felix also sought understanding and cooperation from the public as they will implement tighter security measures as he assured that security threats coming from terror groups will also be dealt with accordingly by the PNP. By CLC and Ben Serrano.
