Chinese government-backed drug rehabilitation facility will be built in Agusan del Sur. PH receives China grant to build Caraga drug rehab center
A Chinese government-backed drug treatment and rehabilitation facility will be built in Caraga region, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said.
Duque on Tuesday disclosed the country has received the grant from the People’s Republic of China for the construction of two regional drug treatment and rehabilitation centers for Caraga and Socsargen.
The grant, he said was received last week by the Department of Health, which will run the facilities during the occasion of the ASEAN ministers meeting held in Pampanga.
The Caraga drug rehab facility will be built in Agusan del Sur province , while the Socsargen center in Sarangani. The budget for the rehabilitation centers reached P760 million.
“The design concept of this project, the ‘Windows of Hope,’ captures the goal of the program of the DOH to give new life to the victims of drug addiction and provide hope for their restoration to their homes and communities,” Duque said.
With the construction of these two facilities, the returning cabinet secretary said only two out of the country’s 17 regions are left without regional rehabilitation centers, namely Region 4B and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The integration of drug dependents and surrenderees into a comprehensive rehabilitation program being implemented throughout the country would be “health aspect” of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, he added. By GD
