Thanks to witnesses, the driver of the motorcycle that figured in a hit-and-run accident last week which left an 80-year-old woman dead in Butuan City—fell into the hands of authorities yesterday.

Butuan policemen identified the suspect as Nestor Perez, 41, a community pastor in Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte.

Perez was arrested by operatives of the Butuan City Police–Station 1 (BCPS 1) and Las Nieves Municipal Police in his house at Purok 7, Barangay Bonifacio, and charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide at the city prosecutor’s office.

The accident happened along a national highway in Barangay Baan Km3 in Butuan City around 3:30 a.m. on November 16 where octogenarian Victoria Abella was reportedly hit by Perez’s Honda TMX.

However, he did not stop and help the victim.

Abella was rushed to the Butuan Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

The Butuan police credited his arrest to witnesses, who went to the BCPS Traffic Enforcement Unit to tell them that they had witnessed the accident.

Witnesses claimed that the vehicle’s license plate number was MT 20442.

A check with the Land Transportation Office yielded Perez’s name and his address.

The family of the victim agreed to have an amicable settlement with Perez as of posting time.  By CLC
