Palace declares May 15 non-working holiday in Surigao del Norte

The Surigao del Norte provincial capitol is located in Surigao City, the provincial capital and the province’s only chartered city. Rich in marine and mineral resources, Surigao del Norte is home to world-class tourism sites.

President Rodrigo Duterte through Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea declared May 15, 2017 as special non-working day in the entire of province of Surigao del Norte to pave way for the 116th Adlaw Nan Probinsya Nan Surigao del Norte celebrations

Proclamation No. 167 by the Office of the President claimed the declaration of special non-working day is only fitting and proper for the people of Surigao del Norte to be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

Duterte, who was supposed to be guest of honor and speaker has designated Senate President Koko Pimentel to represent in his behalf due hectic schedule of the chief executive.

Series of week-long activities will start today up to grand celebration day on May 15 which will be held at the huge provincial capitol grounds in Surigao City.

On the first day May 12, there will Thanksgiving Mass, Agri-Agua Trade Fair and Motorcade around Surigao City, the province’ only chartered city.

On May 13, blessing of the out-patient department of modern Surigao del Norte Provincial Hospital and a Provincial Health Summit ensued.

On May 15, flag raising ceremonies for One Surigao will be conducted at the Capitol grounds after which blessing of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan building.

Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas thanked people of Surigao del Norte and its officials for unwavering cooperation as the province will mark its 116th year founding anniversary, saying Surigao del Norte now is one of the most progressive province in the country today blessed by rich mineral resources and tourism potentials that is World-class.

This year’s theme is “Unity, Teamwork and Solidarity for One Surigao”.
