If you are a direct dependent of active overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Caraga region , you might be eligible for one of 125 scholarships being offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-Caraga).
In a statement, the regional office of OWWA-Caraga announced a total of 125 slots are available for Caraga region this year; 65 for freshmen and 60 for those who have enrolled and/or are currently enrolled under its Overseas Filipino Workers Dependent Scholarship Program (OFWDSP).
Under OFWDSP, aspiring scholars need only pass the qualifying or entrance examination from their preferred state college or university for the school year 2017-2018.
Qualified dependents would be provided financial assistance of P10,000 per semester or P20,000 per academic year.
To qualify as a dependent, the applicant must be a child of a married or unmarried OFW and/or brother or sister of an unmarried OFW and must be single. Incoming freshmen applicants must be below 21 years old and below 30 years old for those already enrolled or currently enrolled in college, the agency said.
The scholar would continue until the completion of the course, including any four- or five-year baccalaureate course regardless of subsequent status of OFW membership provided that the terms of the scholarship agreement are complied upon.
The agency added, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible because the acceptance and approval is on a “first come, first served” basis. By CLC
