Oto disowns 2 NPA leaders arrested in Surigao

Communist guerrillas disowned the two alleged ranking leaders of the New People’s Army arrested by the military and police in Claver, Surigao Del Norte on Friday last week.

Ka Oto, spokesperson of the New People’s Army (NPA) Front Committee 16 in Northeastern Mindanao said Benjamin Catong, alias ka (Comrade) Kulata and Melody Catong, alias ka (Comrade) Em-em were no longer in their roster.

Oto claimed both Benjamin and Melody laid low in 2013 and had since lived a normal life as “ordinary farmers.”

The two were being suspected by the military as the political officers of Front Committee 16 operating in Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte provinces.

They were apprehended from their home in Ladgaron village by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Judge Dan Calderon of Branch 32 of Surigao City Regional Trial Court for charges of multiple attempted murder filed in 2016.

The raiding team confiscated one. 9mm revolver, and live ammunitions. By CLC
