Number of COVID-19 ‘suspects’ who died increases in Caraga

Another suspected coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient died in Surigao City on Monday, bringing to six the total number of persons suspected of coronavirus infection who died in the region without even knowing if they were sick of COVID-19.

The latest patient suspected of having COVID-19 who died was a 65-year-old woman from Surigao del Norte.

Maria Cecilia Bayana, spokesperson of the government-run Caraga Regional Hospital (CRH) in Surigao City, said the senior citizen died on Monday afternoon, only hours after she was taken to the hospital complaining of shortness of breath.

Bayana said a swab test had been taken from the patient, who had known comorbidity, and reportedly the 3rd suspected COVID-19 case to have died in the hospital.

The hospital was still waiting for the woman’s test result, together with another patient who died last Friday (May 8), to confirm if their deaths were COVID-19-related, Bayana added.

As of Tuesday, May 12, Department of Health (DOH-Caraga) COVID-19 tracker recorded 13 suspected COVID-19 carriers who are confined in different hospitals in the region.

At least one probable coronavirus-infected patient is also on the list.

Caraga has recorded three confirmed COVID-19 cases. Two patients from Butuan City have so far recovered. CLC
