Number of COVID-19 cases in Caraga nears 5,000 mark

The region’s total count of coronavirus disease 2019 is nearing the 5,000 mark as of Friday as the Department of Health (DOH) in Caraga logged an additional 56 newly-reported infections.

In its bulletin for January 8, DOH Caraga said the total number of COVID-19 cases in the region is now at 4,955—of which 521 are considered active.

Of the newly reported cases, DOH Caraga said 24 are from Agusan del Sur province, 14 are from Butuan City, 10 are from Surigao del Sur, six are from Agusan del Norte, and one each in the cities of Cabadbaran and Tandag.

No new deaths were also recorded on Friday, with the number of deaths remaining at 221.

The health department likewise announced 28 new recoveries, bringing the region’s total to 4,213.

According to DOH data, Butuan is still the top city with the most number of COVID-19 cases with 1,827, followed by Surigao with 382, Bislig with 216, Tandag with 167, Cabadbaran with 127, and Bayugan with 83.

In terms of province, Agusan del Sur remained the top province with the most number of COVID-19 cases with 995, Surigao del Norte with 373 cases, Surigao del Sur with 347 cases, Agusan del Norte  with 338 cases, and  Dinagat Islands with 100. CLC
