A suspected “revolutionary tax” collector of the New People’s Army in Caraga region was arrested by military and police operatives early Wednesday morning in Butuan City, a military official said.
Lt. Col. Francisco Molina, commander of the Army’s Infantry Battalion (IB) based in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, identified the suspect as Emeliano Legayna, also known by the aliases “Ka Bukas,” “Ka Turko” and “Ka Abba.”
Molina said Legayna was arrested in his house in Barangay Nongnong during an early-morning raid, based on a search warrant issued by Judge Emmanuel Escatron of Butuan Regional Trial Court Branch 2 on alleged violation of R.A. 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition), dated Feb. 11, 2019.
“This is a clear indication that the residents of Barangay Nongnong are tired of the extortion and violent activities of the CPP-NPA group in their area,” he said.
Molina claimed Legayna is the alleged liaison, intel officer and commanding officer, Militiang Bayan (MB) Butuan West, Guerilla Front (GF) 4-A, and at the same time an alleged revolutionary tax collector of the CPP-NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC.)
Recovered during the raid were cal. 45 pistol and a hand grenade.
The alleged rebel tax collector would be charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives, Molina said.
Legayna was placed in the custody of the Butuan City Police Office. By CLC
