A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a firefight with government troops in a hinterland village in San Luis, Agusan del Sur on Saturday, the military said Monday.

Lt. Colonel Romeo Hemenia, commander of the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion identified the slain NPA rebel as alias “Ka Kilyan,” a team leader of NPA “Sandatahang Yunit Pangpropaganda” (SYP) of Guerrilla Front 88, North Central Mindanao Region (NCMR).

Hemenia said his men were conducting foot patrol in Barangay Mahayahay when they clashed with a group of rebels at 7:00 a.m., leading to the death of Kilyan,25.

No soldier was hurt in the incident, Hemenia said.

Brigadier General Andres Centino, commander of 401st  Infantry Brigade, commended the troops’accomplishment.

He called on the communist rebels to return to the fold of law.

“Matatapos na ang taon, at sa natitirang NPA, hindi pa huli para sumuko kayo at maisama sa Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program ng ating pamahalaan. Marami na sa inyo ang nakatanggap ng tulong at nagbagong buhay na, huwag nyong pabayaang alipinin kayo habang-buhay ng kasinungalingan ng teroristang CPP-NPA,” he said. By CLC
