The New People’s Army (NPA) on Thursday owned up to the killing of a village captain in San Luis town, Agusan del Sur.

Ka Omar Ibarra, spokesperson of the NPA Western Agusan Norte-Agusan Sur Subregional Command (WANAS), said a rebel hit squad killed Barangay San Pedro captain Robencio Salamoren while driving home on his motorcycle in Barangay Don Alejandro around noontime Wednesday.

Salamoren,45, died from a multiple bullet wounds during the attack.

Ibarra said the village official was a “legitimate target” of the NPA as he was accused of killing innocent civilians in the area and other counter-revolutionary activities in cahoots with the police and the military.

“The NPA meted punishment on Salamoren for his crimes and counter-revolutionary activities,” Ibarra said.

Police and army officials in Agusan del Sur condemned the NPA for the killing of Salamoren and urged the people to join in the cry for justice. By CLC
