Butuanon businessman Rudy “Lolok” Tiu was killed and four others injured in an accident along the national highway in Trento town in Agusan del Sur province Monday past midnight .
A report from the Trento police, said that at around 12:15 a.m. the victims, aboard a private-owned Toyota Land Cruiser, were negotiating the Daang Maharlika Highway in Barangay Poblacion when their driver, Alvin Radaza, lost control of the vehicle and crashed down the pavement because he did not notice the unfinished road construction.
Citing initial investigation, police blamed the absence of early warning devices on road construction to warn the public about the accident-prone areas and road rehabilitation areas, for the accident.
Tiu died in the crash while the driver and three of the passengers— Ritchel Plaza, Ubaldo Batan and Nicole Plaza, were rushed by villagers to the Franco Clinic and Hospital in Trento for treatment, police said.
The group was on their way home to Butuan City when the accident happened.
Motorists have long been complaining of the lack or shortage of road safety signs on road construction in the province. By CLC
