A truck filled with an estimated 4,000 board feet of hardwood lumber “lawaan” believed to be illegally cut was intercepted by members of the police anti-illegal logging task force in San Miguel town in Surigao del Sur province on Thursday morning.
The truck driver Ramil Cabiltes, failed to produce the required cutting/hauling/transport permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as he was stopped at a checkpoint along the highway in Barangay Tina around 6:45 a.m.
The suspect was detained in San Miguel police jail while the vehicle and the hot lumbers were transferred to the DENR office for proper disposition.
The confiscated forest products, believed to have come from the Diwata Mountain Range in Surigao del Sur were worth about P104,000 in the underground market. By CLC Photo courtesy of San Miguel PS
