NEWSPIX: NPA unit surrenders as CPP marks founding anniversary

A whole unit of the New People’s Army operating in the boundary of Agusan Sur and Compostela Valley  surrendered to the military as the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) celebrated its 50th founding anniversary on Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Andres Centino, commander of the Army’s 401st Infantry Brigade based in Prosperidad, Agusan Sur, presented to the media 19 members of Guerilla Front 3 and Pulang Bagani Command (PBC) 4, through their leader identified only as Ka Boss.

The group also turned over 14 firearms, including assault rifles and pistols, radios and about 1,300 rounds of ammunition.

Centino said concerns about corruption and leadership issues and the continuous military operations prompted the rebels to leave the armed struggle and live their life with their families. By CLC Photo courtesy of 401Bde
