Soldiers on Saturday discovered an abandoned camp believed to belong to New People’s Army rebels in Surigao del Sur.
Army Col . Maurito Licudine, commander of the Army’s 402nd Infantry Brigade, said troops of the 36th Infantry Brigade discovered the camp in the vicinity of Barangay Mabuhay, Tandag City.
The newly discovered camp, which had been abandoned for a few days ago could accommodate about 50 rebels and had several makeshift bunkers which were intentionally destroyed by the rebels before fleeing the settlement, Licudine said.
The government forces also recovered two anti-personnel mines, improvised explosive devices, a half sack of rice and personal belongings.| CLC Photo courtesy of 402nd IB
